The Role

The FIAU is seeking to recruit an IT Assistant to join the Technology & Information Security Section.

The IT Assistant within the Network and Security Team of the Technology and Information Security Section will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. The duties and responsibilities as an IT Assistant shall include, and are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting in installing, inspecting and maintaining computers systems, IT infrastructure and network systems as required and in accordance with the FIAU’s IT policies and procedures;
  • Responding to Level 1 support requests;
  • Performing daily system monitoring of servers and storages and responsible for managing backups and tape rotation;
  • Assisting in managing and maintaining windows and mail user accounts;
  • Assisting in the analysis, evaluation, purchasing and implementation of IT hardware and software;
  • Provide support of all the FIAU applications;
  • Maintenance of the FIAU’s website;
  • Maintaining and updating incident and service request logs;
  • Providing basic training to end-users when necessary;
  • Provide assistance for the implementation of the FIAU’s Business Continuity and Recovery Plan;
  • ICT related administrative duties that include filing, record keeping and report writing;
  • Receiving training on new technologies and training related to future technical assignments;
  • Performing any other duties related to ICT as may be assigned by the Line Manager.


  • Academic qualification in Computer Science at National Qualification Framework level four (4) or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC), or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level;
  • A minimum of 2 years working in a similar role. Candidates with related Microsoft Certifications and with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred;
  • Fluency in both the English and Maltese languages;
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives;
  • Have a good understanding of Network fundamentals;
  • Good understanding of Information Security standards;
  • Experience in managing Microsoft Active Directory and Windows Servers;
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Experience with ITIL based help desk software;
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language;
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
