Alexander Mangion
Head - Strategy, Policy and Quality Assurance
Alexander Mangion joined the FIAU eight years ago and has occupied various positions. He is currently head of the Strategy, Policy and Quality Assurance section. This section’s main purpose is to provide strategic direction and continuously seek ways to improve the FIAU’s processes and procedures.
In fulfilment of this role Dr Mangion regularly attends EU and international meetings. He has also taken an active role as a technical expert in a number of EU Council working party meetings wherein the adoption of the Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive was discussed. He was actively involved in the working group which spearheaded the process for the adoption of the Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive during the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU. Alexander also formed part of the working group that coordinated Malta’s Fifth Round Evaluation by MONEYVAL and is a certified MONEYVAL evaluator.
Dr Mangion graduated Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2009. Prior to joining the FIAU in 2012 he was engaged as a legal officer within a local professional firm.
