Appointment of Deputy Directors

The Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) announces the appointment of Ms Ruth Aisthorpe Gauci and Ms Elena Tabone as Deputy Directors, following a call for applications launched as part of the Unit’s strategic objective to strengthen its senior leadership structure.

These appointments reflect the FIAU’s continued growth and its expanding responsibilities as Malta’s supervisor and leading authority in the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. As the scope, complexity and scale of AML/CFT oversight continue to evolve, reinforcing leadership capacity remains a key institutional priority.

Both appointees have played a central role in the development and consolidation of the FIAU’s Intelligence, Supervision and Enforcement functions and continue to contribute substantially to the Unit’s strategic direction. Together, they bring extensive collective experience within the FIAU, supported by deep technical knowledge of the AML/CFT framework developed through years of hands‑on work and sustained engagement at both domestic and international levels.

In their respective roles, the Deputy Directors will work closely with the FIAU’s Board of Governors, Director and senior management, contributing at a strategic level and representing the FIAU in high‑level engagements both domestically and internationally, as the Unit enters its next phase of development.

The FIAU looks forward to continuing to build on its strong leadership foundations in support of its national and international AML/CFT mandate.
