The Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) would like to bring to the attention of subject persons the publication of Europol’s annual Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment (IOCTA) 2026.
It contains Europol’s analysis of evolving threats and trends in cybercrime, focusing on the significant changes over the past 12 months. This report focuses on cybercrime enablers, the criminal infrastructure behind online fraud schemes, cyber-attacks, and online child sexual exploitation.
The report also sheds light on how cybercriminals are increasingly leveraging advanced technologies, especially AI, to broaden the scope, increase their efficiency, and the reach of their illegal operations. Apart from automating key steps in criminal processes, these tools also make it harder to distinguish between legitimate and malicious applications of technology.
Further information can be found in the IOCTA publication, which can be accessed directly through Europol’s website, or from the FIAU’s website under the tab “Europol”.
